Free Speech Is Central to Our Dignity as Humans

June 4, 2016

In his new op-ed for Time, William Ruger, vice president of policy and research at Stand Together Trust, discussed why America should remain committed to the ideal of free speech, even when such speech is uncomfortable. As he writes:

“As a society, we seem to have forgotten that free speech is central to our dignity as human beings as well as to intellectual and material progress. It fosters a culture of vibrant debate and discussion in which people can challenge the status quo, fight injustice, and pursue happiness as they see fit. America today is undeniably better because previous generations availed themselves of this freedom and used it to transform society.”
