Restraint: A New Foundation for U.S. Grand Strategy?

May 12, 2016

Barry R. Posen is the Ford International Professor of Political Science and director of the Security Studies Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also the author of Restraint: A New Foundation for U.S. Grand Strategy.

In October 2014, he sat down with Stand Together Trust’s vice president of research and policy, William Ruger, for a nuanced discussion of American interests in international relations, arguing that restraint is a more viable option than the dominant perspective of liberal hegemony in U.S. foreign policy.

Next week, Posen will appear at Advancing American Security: The Future of U.S. Foreign Policy, a conference hosted by Stand Together Trust to facilitate an honest and open inquiry into our nation’s foreign policy. During Advancing American Security, Posen will address the question of how future presidents might implement the principle of restraint in of U.S. grand strategy.
